Distributed Backend Infrastructure at AWS Current
AWS runs across 30+ global regions and 400+ edge locations. Distributed backend services and software-defined networking — traffic engineering, packet processing, programmable network infrastructure. At this scale, rare failure modes occur regularly, so design for them from the start.
Moved from AWS Sydney to AWS Seattle in 2022. More cross-team scope, broader technical leadership, same fundamental work.
"Design for what the system does when things go wrong — not just when they go right."

Backend Engineering at Goldman Sachs
Two years in financial data pipelines and backend services. Goldman sharpened my standard for operational discipline — change management, rollback strategies, deployment processes that exist for good reasons. A good context for learning what rigour looks like at an institutional level.

Dgraph — Graph Queries at Production Scale
Contributed to Dgraph's query execution engine — coordinating distributed graph traversals across shards and merging results in real time. The focus was minimising network round-trips during multi-hop queries: push computation toward the data, not the other way around.
Open source infrastructure work teaches you that interfaces are contracts. Performance claims get tested publicly. It set a lasting standard for what "working correctly" actually means.
